High-level Event on Just Transition of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union


For the second half of 2023, Spain holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union. Under this presidency, environmental adaptation and the advancement of a green transition are being prioritised, with Spain hosting a high-level event to discuss the Just Transition on October 26 and 27, 2023. Attended by heads of EU institutions, members of European governments, representatives of municipalities and regions, companies, trade union and social organizations, the event will focus on just transition as an accelerator of the reindustrialisation of Europe within a framework of climate neutrality by 2030 and in accordance with the Paris Agreement’s commitments.

The meeting also aims to discuss and link the energy transition with advancement in social justice and the promotion of civil society inclusion and involvement towards the green transition. The event will also celebrate the 5th anniversary of the signing of the Spanish Framework Agreement for a Just Transition of Coal Mining and Sustainable Development of the Mining Regions for the period 2019-2027.
