Webinar on Reporting Just Transition for Local Communities

Earth Journalism Network (EJN) will host a webinar on reporting the just transition for marginalised groups impacted by decarbonisation efforts. The webinar will focus on the underrepresented voices of women, Indigenous communities, youth and local workers.

While renewable energy sectors like solar and wind will generate new jobs, a just transition means transferring new skills and ensuring economic growth in regions heavily dependent on fossil fuels. It also means protecting Indigenous land rights and the environment while scaling up renewable energy capacity.

Journalists play a key role in informing the public about the complexities of energy transition and holding policy-makers and the private sector accountable in their commitments to a just transition. Participants will learn about best practices for inclusive storytelling and explore how to amplify the voices of marginal groups impacted by the fossil fuel and critical mineral mining sectors, such as lithium and cobalt, which are crucial for the development of renewable technologies.

This webinar is part of EJN’s IDEA Talks series which aims to support journalists in applying a Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) lens in their reporting.
